Light of the Moon - Interpretive Typography Sequence
Typographic & Visual Systems | Spring 2023
Objective | Light of the Moon is a haiku poem by Yosa Buson that I have translated into a visual typographic interpretive booklet. The goal was to translate this poem into a typography-focused booklet visually.
The use of typography in this project was the focal point. However, I also incorporated other graphics, chosen to serve as supporting shapes in the compositions, adding depth and visual interest to the booklet.

After reading the poem, I had to decide how to interpret it visually. When sketching initial ideas, I experimented with the compositions and how to display the type dynamically.

Typeface & Color

Typography is one of the most crucial elements of this booklet. I used it as texture for the graphic elements and to imply movement for the moonlight and shadows.

I wanted the colors to create a sense of lighting and tone. Yellow is used to showcase the moonlight, and pink is used as a more dominating color to highlight the flower as our main character in the poem.
